Everything on this site that we did not make ourselves is credited here. If something is attributed wrongly or is missing, please tell us and we will fix it.

Modern map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence.

Where a historic map layer is offered, it is served from georeferenced Ordnance Survey sheets published by the National Library of Scotland, used with attribution.

Images

Quest artwork is drawn from Wikimedia Commons and other public collections wherever a suitable image exists — engravings, portraits, artefact photographs. Each image is credited on the quest it appears in, with its author and licence. Where no suitable image exists, the artwork is generated and is deliberately stylised as illustration, so that it is never mistaken for a photograph or a historical document.

Historical information

Place descriptions draw on Wikipedia and Wikidata, and on the public heritage records of Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland and Cadw. Every place links to its Wikipedia article so you can check us.
